I use an Eizo and it is great for photo work but it is 3x what your budget is. I have read good things about the NEC UXI series and considered a 26" when I got my Eizo.

I also looked at the Lacie and every article I read said it was good but that service through Lacie was bad. I'm not familiar with the 20" NEC but if it has the same specs as the 26" it would be the one I would buy.

The HP Daniel mentioned has gotten some good recommendations from various photographic forums I frequent but I don't have any personal experience with it. It wasn't on the market when I was looking.

I also picked up a 24" Samsung 244T that has worked very well for photo work and it is reasonably priced. It doesn't have the color gamut of the Eizo but for most print outputs in sRGB it does fine.

Did you check out Viewsonic? Before I moved to Eizo I used (2) 21" VP2130b's. Now I have an Eizo and a VP2130b.
