As someone who had this problem with their own wedding photos, please get someone to help you with this wedding. Consider getting someone else to shoot primary.

My wedding pictures came out blurry and looked horrible. I got better pictures from my guests. I don't even know where the professional pictures are now, I think maybe my grandparents have them, and sadly, I don't care.

This is a problem today. When I started in this business a newbie would spend the time to learn the craft while also acquiring the right equipment. Then after they have learned their craft they go into business. Now it seems like everyone with a DSLR goes into business then tries to learn their craft. I feel for you and hate to be so brutal, but I think you are going about this totally backwards.

I agree with toverman. When first starting out, I was in the same situation. The daughter of a dear friend was getting married and they couldn't afford a photographer. This was back in the film days. I was not very experienced, especially with flash. I shot the wedding and when I got the prints back, half of each print was black. It would seem that my shutter was not synchronized. I'm sure it had to do with my ignorance and lack of attention to detail.

At any rate, the bride was beside herself with anger and I can't say as I blame her. The adage of "You get what you pay for" doesn't seem to cut it when things go wrong with a friend. I don't remember the daughter ever talking to me after that. My friend forgave me, but it took a while.

Since then, I've sworn off weddings. Newlyweds are not rational beings for the most part. My issue happened almost 30 years ago. In today's lawsuit happy environment, you are truly taking a risk. Do them a favor, just say no.

Sorry to hear about your situation but this is a good lesson. Had this been a paying job, you would now be looking at a serious lawsuit.

Sorry Teresa. I meant no harm and did not intend to make light of your situation. I guess I still have a hard time believing a man would do that to his family. I know how important my son is to me. I'll keep you in my thoughts and prayers.

It's a horrible and unfortunate situation and I can understand where Terry is coming from. To go from a thread about your wedding photography to airing personal laundry was unexpected. I definitely don't think it required a personal attack, however.

Yes, this....

And maybe a simple "having personal problems" post instead of that sort of personal detail

Hope everything works out.
