Anywhere to rent Olympus gear? - 06-11-2008, 09:29 PM

I have looked at Ft Worth Camera, Dallas Camera and Arlington Camera and I have yet to find any of these selling/renting out Olympus gear. All Nikon or Canon.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I'm torn between buying the 35-100 f/2 or the 150 f/2 come September - I may have to rent them and compare.

Teresa,

I know you are in need of some fast Olympus glass pretty soon and I thought I would pass along this Craigslist entry I just ran across.

http://dallas.craigslist.org/pho/716607274.html

I know nothing about this seller or his equipment. Good luck.
Dan

yes me and my husband saw that and are going to go look at the lenses today as we are not sure they will fit my camera body as they are not for an Dslr camera but they should fit.

Those are probably OM-mount and will not fit without an adapter. Your E-330 has a 4/3s mount.

spoke to wolf camera after the craigslist seller had emailed me photos of the connection to the body of camera and the guy (camera/older expert) said they would make a perfect match so we are going to go look at the lenses today and check them out.

The only lenses that are made to fit 4/3rds directly are digital specific (ie they have AF and don't look like those legacy lenses.) Let us know how they fit - if they fit fine I might have to pick some up for myself.

arlington camera was selling Olympus equip a few months ago, I went in and looked at the e-3, a sigma 50mm and the oly 12-60. Now renting may be a different thing, have you tried Precision in Austin?

Teresa,
Have you tried Light Tec in Dallas see if they carry a lens.

Those are OM mount lenses and yes... you need an adapter to use them.

The 50mm f1.8 is excellent on full frame, let alone 4/3rds and the 135mm f3.5 is very good. You simply can not go wrong with these lenses.

The 50mm f1.8 - depending on condition, is worth $35-$65 - if brand new in box, worth up to $100. The 135mm f2.8 is worth anywhere from $100-$150 depending on condition. The color is superb and can rival with the Canon L glass. Try it out and you will get hooked on real fast. Especially with the E330 and live view A, these will perform very well.

If you know where Dallas Camera is or where Competitive camera is, you should have no problem finding Don's Photo Equipment. They have Fotodiox OM-4/3rds adapters on hand for $28.95. Todd is quite familiar with these and should be able to help you out. Buy a couple so you have one for each lens. These are no different from the Olympus $100 adapters which they were handing out to E-1 users free at one time.
