I shoot canon so keep that in mind. I have had a tamron 17-50 f2.8 and was pretty impressed with it, but are there any other zoom lenses out there that work really well for car shows?

the 17-50 f2.8 should be pretty good, it is wide and fast which is what I've needed on the few times I shot shows. The lighting is usualy abysmal and crowds uncooperative. I used a Sigma 20/1.8 with good results in the past.

17-40L has been the best one so far.

I used a 16-80 the last one, but I am not sure what the closest Canon equivallent is. I used to like using the 11-18 too, but I packed light this time.

I was thinking about getting either a 17-50 or tokina 12-24. I can't afford L glass unless I can find a 17-40 for a good price
