Lightning Trigger...Yay or Nay? - 06-16-2008, 03:51 AM

I have been looking to get one of these for a while and this seems to be the only one I can find for a decent price....
http://www.lightningtrigger.com/

everything else I found was homeade or they just provided the schematics to make one yourself

Has anyone ever used one or no anyone who has....I would like to believe that what you read about a product online is true, but it isnt thats why i figured I would ask here. Thanks

At $329 I would hope it would work......

The only one I know personally who uses some sort of trigger on this forum is Joe Lorenzini. PM him.

Heck yeah it works!! It's fantastic and the guy who makes them is great to deal with.

Couple of things... It's bigger than I'd like and takes a 9V battery which could go out on you (mine has once after about 6 months). It will respond to any sort of lightning flash, even off camera so like any other method you try you're going to end up with a lot of dull shots (no big with digital).

But the shots you do get are spot on. I love the thing.

awesome Joe, Thanks...so you just plug it in to the camera and just let it sit there? and it responds to any kind of flash? The reason I am asking is If I am out somewhere waiting on some lightning, my Xti's screen will go off and you have to tap the shutter button before it will shoot again, same with my wireless remote...if you wait to long gotta wake the camera up before it will shoot....is there anyway around this or does it matter?

All valid questions and if I were you I'd email LT and ask them each and every question before ordering. That's a lot of money to spend so I'd make sure it's going to work like you expect it to.

I'm sorry I can't answer your question directly but I have no experience on that camera.

One more thing:
You'll need a cable that connects the trigger to the camera body. For me, I had to buy a Nikon remote and he modified it for me so I could use it with the trigger. I expect you'll need to do something similar. That could add extra cost (it did for me).

Good luck!
