inexpensive tripod recomendation - 06-17-2008, 10:00 AM

I am looking for an inexpensive tripod, i have an old one that my parents had for who knows how long and it is just not cutting it. The heaviest weight it would need to hold would be my 20D and 400 f/5.6, and i do not plan on upgrading to any larger lenses for a long time, so if it can hold about 6 lbs that is fine for me. I have tried looking online but i just don't know what to look for, i would like something that would allow smooth camera movement (as what i have right now is very tight and doesn't work well for anything but just portraits). Any help or recommendations? My budget would prob be less than $100.

Try Amvona.com
I bought a tripod from them that's a Manfrotto style knockoff that was about $80. Not top of the line, but very good.

Also they have an ebay store where you can often find the same item in their catalog for about 1/2 the price.

Take a look at the Sunpak 4300. About $75.00 and seems to be a good sturdy unit. I have used one for several years and beren completely happy. I even found a ball head to fit it.
