I know it took about 4x longer to format in the pc than it does in the camera.

wow, good info guys, I'll plug my .02,
I'll have to look into the hoodman cards
but after starting with microdrives years ago and then moving to Lexar, I found through experience and advice to only buy Sandisk for my Canon equipment.
No problems so far and as long as you don't need the fastest thing first I have seen 4gb sandisk Ultra II's for about $40 at Costco.
I've never had a problem "so far".
Good luck.

Good thing you'll only have to do that once.

So far I haven't needed to format again on my PC.

I get weekly email "specials" emails from www.adorama.com and last night's had to do with a $49.95 Sandisk Extreme III 8 Gig compact flash. NewEgg's Transcend brand is lower priced and performs without glitches.

Does anyone know the manufacturer of the CF Cards Fry's sells. Seems like the name is "A Data" or something similar. Also, does anyone have experience with these cards? Pro or Con.

Here's A Data.

You might want to head over to Newegg.com and read some of the reviews from customers about A Data CF & SD cards.

Personally I've never had any experience with their products.

I also format each card in the camera before each shoot. I use SanDisk CF cards and (knock on wood) have never had any corrupt files or card failures.

That's not to say there aren't any good alternatives out there. I haven't used A-Data cards but they look interesting. I found this review comparing an 8GB 266x A-Data vs. Kingston. I wish they would have used a newer camera, but at least it gives a good head-to-head comparison of A-Data to a more well-known competitor.

Also, check out the CF/SD performance database on Rob Galbraith's site for more useful information.

That has happened to me twice. One on a Kingston card and another on a Sandisk. It is a feeling you don't want to experience. Why dont the 5D have dual slots?

Every card will fail, the only question is when.

You're right every card will fail at some point. That's life. Scott, I know what you mean about the 5D. It's a great camera, but if there's one thing I could change about it, I would add a second card slot for data redundancy.

I'm interested to see if the 5D successor will add a second slot or not. I'm hoping for the former but expecting the latter.
