Arrow iPhone/iPod Touch: Portable Portfolio... Great Tool! - 07-24-2008, 07:50 AM

I got a 16g Ipod Touch in Nov '07 or so and have been using it for more than just music.

The Ipod Touch/iPhone has an amazing 3.5" display with great color and contrast which makes it great to display photos on. This is a great tool to use as a traveling portable portfolio. I have alot of my shots on my ipod in my own personal album but then i also have several other inspirational directories setup as well.

The inspirational directories I have are comprised of various categories that include photos that I've seen and like online that I use for inspiration in my own work. It's a great tool to use in order to get different posing ideas etc when you start to run out of ideas. These are the directories I currently have.

Inspire - Bands
Inspire - Bridals
Inspire - Child Portraits
Inspire - Concerts
Inspire - Engagements
Inspire - Glamour
Inspire - Infants
Inspire - Men's Portraits
Inspire - Women's Portraits
Inspire - Senior Boys
Inspire - Senior Girls
Inspire - Sports
Inspire - Weddings

I have about 1,000 or so photos on my iPhone that are solely of other people's work whom I admire and I will often times browse through the shots on the way to a shoot etc in order to get my mind going as to what I might like to try...

For those out there that do have an Ipod Touch or an Iphone I would definitely recommend getting your own personal portfolio loaded onto the device because it works as an amazing form of marketing if you happen to come across a person interested in the photography that you may be doing at that time. This of course is not meant to replace a business card but I feel these devices help really sell your work to potential clients plus they can be used as reference material as I have outlined above....

How much is Apple paying you again?

J/K, it really is a great tool. I love the inspirational aspect of it- I think alot of people would use it more for that than for marketing!

I have one (itouch) and keep all my photos on it. As he wrote it really helps with showing people your work on the spot. The whole music playing thing is definitely a plus.

I've been doing this on my iPhone for a while now, and I agree this is an awesome portable tool. You can not only show off your portfolio to potential clients/customers, but you can bring along ideas. I've even run into a couple of photographers not on TPF and they were doing the same thing.

I'm amazed during the meetups at how many TPF'ers have these things. Everyone pulls out there iPhone/iTouch and starts "flicking" through their albums. It is really cool. I end up getting an inferiority complex cuz I only have a T-Mobile Dash!

Remote is awesome on the new 2.0 software if you use your iTunes library for music and such at home. If you have an AppleTV it becomes an instant hit as well. I've played with it a few times, but usually if I'm listening to music chances are I'm sitting at my desk already on my pc, but still an awesome application.

Been meaning to do this on my iPod touch. Just been putting it off. Thanks for the reminder and the great idea about inspirational directories. I'm guilty of shooting some fantastic stuff and then run out of ideas when things are clicking well......NOT good. This way I can get inspired on the spot.

Love mine, used it quite a lot while I was in NYC for my birthday this past weekend. I've got a few albums for the shots I like best, and my "war" album of photos from Iraq. That one makes a great ice breaker.

I use my Touch for showing my clients photos/video tours in the real estate market. It beats lugging around a laptop and you can always use the video out to hook up to a TV in their office.
