Broken 1D LCD - 08-08-2008, 02:04 AM

I was firing off a test shot with my 1D and the back LCD has stopped working! No image visible whatsoever. Should I send for repair? Sell? Ideas?

Nothing? You can't see the menu, review images, etc? But the camera still works?

I'd give Canon Irvine a call (949-753-4000) and find out what they say. They'll probably recommend you send it in for an estimate, but it's worth a try...

It's as if the "video" plug was pulled. Otherwise the camera still meters and whatnot as well as it did before. It wouldn't be an issue if I ever had to set WB or whatnot.
Thanks

Couldn't contact Irvine (or the NJ office either) but went through the 1-800 number and setup a repair online. Their phone support had great and friendly support, the op knew his stuff.

Sent off for repair, $211. The online breakdown says it's not parts replacement, just all labor. $180, tax.

$211? That sucks considering the fact that for less money, you can buy a crappy canon point N shoot with a bigger LCD.

And that there are no parts, just labor. Makes me think they're just going inside and wiggling a cable. (which back when I did pro video, always did the trick when something died.)

It came back yesterday (have to sign for it, Fedex) with a new hot shoe (didn't even ask), new circuit board and LCD. Looks good to me
