What do you Nikonians think about a D2X and D700 combo? The D2X for telephoto work, and the D700 for General photography and wide angle?

Well, the concept works for me (D3 and D300 :-). I've been sort of keeping my eye out on Nikon Cafe to see if anyone's looking to trade a D2Xs for a D300, I much prefer the D2x/D3 controls to the D200/D300/D700.

Nope. Looks like a lot of people have been dumping D300s for D700s though :-)

Ok, I am WEAK, Mea Culpa, but I bought one. I know I should not have, but I did, do I have the D700/D2X combo, and while I love the low light abilities of the D700, the D2X actually "feels" better in my hand. I am weak, the temptation was too great for this poor old Texas boy [hangs head]. Seems to be slightly over exposing outside for some reason, I need to play with it some more. But man! Does my 50mm f/1.4 look good on this thing, and the photos are so sharp! I love my 50mm again. A D3 probably feels as good as my D2X, but I could not afford a D3. Perhaps with the grip..... No! No! I need to be strong, I must be strong! Ah, the heck with it, the grip and extra EN-EL 3 is only $250 or so......

The grip still won't feel the same. On the other hand, maybe you'll really like it. Let me know if you do, you might be more comfortable with a D300 and grip to match your D700 and grip :-)

I agree, because the grip on my D80 just doesn't feel as good as that on the D2X. There is just something about a pro body Nikon that cannot be duplicated by the addition of a grip. But I'll tell you that after using the D2X with the new 16-85mm VR, I am really, really impressed with that combination. Light weight, sharp, its a nice camera/lens combination. Quote:

The D700 feels front heavy with the 24-70mm attached, and feels unbalanced for some reason. Heck of a combination though.
