Depends on what you shoot.

If you shoot fast action or events where you take a lot of photos quickly (ie. weddings), you want something that will read/write very fast:

If you shoot studio, portrait or basic events (birthday, holidays, etc...) then maybe you don't need top speeds:

Do the fast cards work in the D300? - They sure do, they're very fast and if you shoot that way, they are worth the extra dollars.

D300 will take advantage of the faster UDMA cards. To me the worth the slight premium, not so much because they clear the in-camera buffer more quickly, but because at the end of the day downloading several GB of images to the computer is much faster.

I'm a rank amateur and the Sandisk Extreme III cards are plenty fast enough for me! They do take a while to copy over, but jeez.. those D300 images are HUGE!

I'm using the Extreme III but just make sure they are labeled 30mb/s as they were originally 20mb/s.

Hoodman RAW UDMA 300X 8GB...much more than the SanDisk or Lexar in the same UDMA class. Their sellling point it that they have had zero failure rate in the field. I've not had the first issue with it...format the card in the camera after every shoot.

Thanks for so many replies. I'm looking to get a few at a decent price

Joe, your quick. I shoot mostly head shot child portfolio stuff. I shoot kid sports and my sons teams. I'm trying to teach myself the best way to shoot his basketball games now so I am ready in December.

Dan, yes it is the 30mb thanks

Rich, I couldn't find it on the site. It is usually in the manual also but I need to locate that.

Travis, Hoodman RAW UDMA 300X 8GB I'm sure it is the tops but....
That card is more than $200.00 more expensive than the one I was looking at.
