Would be just the thing for shooting video with a 5DII. | | | | | Sponsored Links | Premium Members do not see Google advertisements. SIGN UP today and help support our community.

Putting all your eggs in one basket is right. I've never been burned by a CF card but I still don't trust them. I am happy to mitigate risk by using more than one throughout the day. You will not see me buying one of these any time soon.

the problem is not the card, or the fear of losing images for me. The problem with a 100gb card -- let's say you go out and fill it up -- come back to your computer -- where you gonna put that after about the third time?
I could see these being useful for the MF digital market, but hard drive price/gig is gonna have to come way down for this to be useful for the consumer market

Agreed. I get away with 2g's at the moment, and always have that fear of it crashing in the back of my mind.

Those of us nervous about card size are going to have to start living more and more on the edge...video takes up oodles of gigapickels and HD is even worse. Thankfully, 1TB hard drives are well under $200. My inbox is full of ads. Here's one quote: $126.99 Seagate Barracuda 1TB 7200.11 Internal 3.5" Serial ATA-300 7,200 RPM 32MB Hard Drive - ST31000340AS.
I've been shooting 8GB cards for 6 mos with zero failures. Yet the stories still persist of card problems...
It's enough to keep you up at night!

One of my first 4Gb cards crashed on me awhile back ;) luckly I recovered about 98% of all images, 100Gb is a bit strech right now (IMHO) but with new 20-40 MPx cameras .....
PS: shooting 4, 8 and 16 GB cards

Don't think of it as your shooting card.... think of it as your new 100-gb Solid State Portable Hard Drive.
Although it would take FOOOOOOR EEEEEEEEV EEEEEEEER for PhotoRescue to pull the files off that thing in case of corruption.

But we are going to be moving to them with the larger and higher density sensor. I've been using 4 and 8 Gig Extreme III's for the last year with no problems. I'm looking at for the 5DII at least 2 8 Gig and 2 16 Gig Extreme IV's. Keep your batteries fully charged, format after you've dumped them and keep them in an environmentally sealed card case and I don't see why one should worry.

100Gb card? What's that equal? One wedding? The first half of a football game?
As for putting "all your eggs in one basket", buy two. Switch them out every 30 minutes or 20Gb worth of RAW+JPEG files. Naturally, all the owners of the new 5D won't be able to fill them up quite as fast. The 5D MkII is sooooooooooooo slow don't you know. A painfully slow 3.9 FPS. "The Horror!"

That's cool. There is a genuine use for tiny high capacity storage.

I used to fret about a 36-exposure roll of film early on in case I flubbed the developing somehow. My nerves felt better with two smaller rolls. I got over it, though, and started rolling as much film as would fit into the canisters. | | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
