Live view setting

I've been checking this new setting out on my Canon 40D and can't seem to get it to auto focus. Do I have to use only manual with the live setting? And how can I do that if I'm holding it over my head or some other awkward position? Am I missing something?

You can not focus while in Live View mode. You can however still focus. Hit the focus button on the back of the camera at the top right, third button in from the edge, while in live view. It will go out of Live View long enough to focus and then return so you can shoot. Cumbersome sure. But it will focus a type of one shot focus. The camera will not focus using the shutter button.

In my opinion your camera should not focus with the shutter release. You should focus with the alternate button. When I'm not so tired I'll explain why.
