Camera Stop - Plano TX - 11-15-2008, 10:53 AM

Just stopped by this morning to check out the shop.
Camera Stop in Plano (Parker and Preston).
Very friendly guys, their pricing is right on par with on-line stores.

They are really a "semi-pro" shop, didn't have any pro bodies(but will order them),had Nikon D-700/300 and Canons 50D-40D etc.

They rent lenses and the shop is stock full of accessories and online pricing.

Bought my D200 & 24-70 from them. Good local shop and they do some nice prints also. Service rather than price oriented.

I agree they are very nice but I have found the prices to be way off online stores.

Like the location, but I have been talked down to on two occasions now. (maybe it's the age?) Prints were late and look like I could have made them with a R1900.

It'll do for small things, but I'll keep making the voyage to Arlington to be treated right.

I think I've been there once... when I went the prices didn't seem any where near the online stores.

I have to agree, Arlington Camera is my favorite place!

Does anyone know if they create optical prints from negative film?

I have been to Camera Stop a few times since it's the closest camera shop that is not a Wolf Camera. You will rarely find a store front shop that is going to be able to keep up with the on-line world.

The owner and most of the employees are much smarter about cameras and know what they are doing. You pay for service, and not just the equipment when you buy from them. From what I understand they still treat you better than the guys at Competitive Camera down in Dallas. (Not that I have had a problem with them, they have been great to me.)

I do think they are in trouble though. I don't think they have the studio anymore. They did not get enough business to have a rental studio since it was another retail space they had to rent.

As well, the last time I went in there to pick up a few items I was told they are no longer accepting returns.

That's going to hurt them for the Christmas season. I have told everyone not to get me anything from there for Christmas, if they get the wrong thing I want to be able to return it for the correct item. I also don't want to be stuck with something that I find does not fit my needs.

Normally when I have seen a company go that route they are having money issues. Then again, I can see where they might be having problems with people buying items, using them for an event or something, and then returning them. I am sure that if it happened a few times they would be ready to stop that type of activity.

I just hope they are still around in June and July. I am heading to a high power rocket launch and I want to rent the 300mm 2.8 for the week. :-)

Tim

I went to Arlington Camera last Saturday and they were mobbed wiith people. It took over 15 minutes to get a salesperson to sell me the polarizing filter I wanted. Wont go back on a Saturday again.

Its no surprise they are having money issues…they are way over priced on a lot of their items. With the advent of the internet, most smart people are going to purchase online; pay lower prices, no tax, and in a lot of cases the shipping is free and fast.

They are the least bad local option I have here in Frisco. I've had endless problems uploading photos through their website.

I also echo the comment of felling condescended to ever time I walk in. I've been doing semi-pro stuff few years, and get it, but they always treat me like an idiot.

Ditto, had the same happen to me one time. - Joke was on them though in the end, they did not even know what a Arctic Butterfly was (and they sold them).
