Canon 5d Mk II delivery - 11-26-2008, 10:46 AM

I just got a call from the local store here in Lubbock asking me if I wanted the body only or the Kit.

I am second on their list, and they are getting one body only package, and one kit with the 24-105. They said that it will be in Friday.

Being that I am wanting the body only (as is the first guy on the list) I will not be recieving mine on the first go around, but at least it sounds like they are about to walk in the door!

So I guess I will check in on Friday and see if the first guy doesn't really want his (A guy can dream can't he?)

Kent, I've been hearing nothing but good things about the 5D MkII.
We'll keep our fingers crossed for you.

Do you already have the 24-105? If not, it's worth the deal you'd get as a kit, or sell it to me! Some put it on their 5D bodies and never take them off.

I appreciate the suggestion, but I am horrible with trying to resell stuff, and for me it would not be worth the hassle.

I don't have the 24-105, but I have the 24-70 and feel it would be redundant to own both.

Nah -- I can wait -- just excited that it is shipping.

We were notified by our vendor that Canon shipped theirs to them Monday...We are supposed to have 3 sent our way early next week. I am pretty anxious. I know KJ is too as he just had one of his 5D's die during a wedding a couple of weeks ago.

I sold my 24-70 and got a 24-105... I think you could easily sell the 24-105 if you decide to go that route. How much is the kit vs. the body only?

Cool A little early, hey? - 11-26-2008, 09:19 PM

How does a camera that didn't exist prior to mid or late 2005 die in late 2008? I know the usage rate zooms sky high when you get "free" exposures. However, if a camera "dies" in less than 3 years, exposures are not free.

Not to mention the bug factor associated with new releases.

Diving for cover and brandishing my 1971 M5.

LCD died. Not to speak for him, but he probably has 150-200k of exposures on it I would guess.. It can be fixed...but he knew he had 2 new ones on order (I have 1), so he didn't send it in yet.

It's a computer Wayne. 3 yrs is an eternity. LOL. Just a cost of doing business...When you are as busy as KJ, a couple of thousand on a body every few years is not a big expense (especially when you get them at dealer cost...) :)

Unfortunately, if we were shooting film...and in the same market segment we're in now... I couldn't say the same thing. Clients demanding digital.

I know. I know. Commercial pressures. Customers who only want the latest thing. Things that "POP!" without making any noise.

LCD? Who needs an LCD?

Wayne, As soon as you can convince the 20 something crowd to embrace film again for their weddings, things may change. Good luck with that. haha I still like film, but change with the times in order to stay competitive.

From what I understand...yes IS works on the lenses when in video mode. I'll let you know for sure as soon as I get it. I already have a short "film" project lined up with a local writer. He recently returned from LA after winning an award for a horror short. I know nothing at all about this proposed project other than it's to be submitted to the Sundance Film Festival next month. So it's going to be a SHORT short considering the time table. LOL

I just hope I can remember how to use my darn editing tools.

Yes per canon, but you shouldn't use it at all while shooting in video mode. IS drifts around before settling, the effect will be captured and looked if the video drops then jumps back in frame.

That's just the nature of the business nowadays. Resistance is futile. LOL

Joe McNally loves the LCD on the back of his D3, and he demonstrates in several videos how he uses the information from it to set up the creative exposure he's looking for. It's just another tool in the bag.

Good luck everyone!

Alas. The 20 Something crowd grew up only knowing digital. It's not their fault. They weren't exposed to folks like Richard Avedon in the fashion magazines.

There are folks who have stayed with film for weddings and portraits. Their customer base keeps coming back for the quality of the work, not the speed of posting JPEGs on the web.

Way off topic.

Yes, I'm jealous that many of you are getting new 5D bodies. Enjoy!
