So what do you all think. I am down to these three lenses. The Canon 35 f/2, Canon 35L f/1.4 or the Canon 16-35L f/2.8.

The 16-35 will give you an actual "wide" zoom on your 5D. If you lean toward the prime and have enough dough, I have heard only fantastic things about the 35 f/1.4L (one of Canon's ultimate "holy trinity of primes"). The price for the 35 f/2 makes it a stellar deal for the sharpness and light weight, but to really get all you can out of a 5D Mk II, the better optics, smoother and faster USM focusing of the f/1.4 could make a difference.

Wide angle low light video on the mark ii. I do not think the 2.8 o the 16-35 will be fast enough for me. I really enjoyed what I am getting with the 85mm f/1.8, but need something wider. I was thinking 28mm f/1.8 but that might be too wide....

I can recommend the 35/1.4 very highly. It is an outstanding lens, and the DOF at f/1.4 will be fun to play with on the 5D2.

I have the 35L and the 16-35.

That 35L gets some SERIOUS use by me.

However, the 16-35 is very wide and can be useful for that kind of look. Depending on how low the light, I bet the 16-35 would work pretty nice in video mode in all but very very low light. Guess you'd need to go out and measure your typical light. If F2.8 1/30th, ISO 3200 isn't enough.. then that'll tell you.. Since that is the fastest you'll be able to get in video mode with the 16-35.

Either of these lenses are nice. The 35L is exceptional.

BTW: If you think the 28 is going to be too wide...Then by all means.. grab the 35L.

You don't need a 35 f1.4L. Get a 18-200mm f3.5-5.6. It'll do you better and you know it. You could get some pretty neat photos out of that.

35L it is my most used 5D lens. Remember is one of the under 200mm Canon trinity.

You don't need one of the three finest lenses Canon makes?

Among the 3 options listed and the potential use, the 35L is about as good as it gets.

Even though the 24L doesn't share the same crowning reputation of the 35L, it really is an excellent lens.

I have both the 34L & 16-35/2.8L II also.I don't have the5D2, but I would think the 35L would be really good for video. Actually you can't go wrong with either one, but the extra stops of light might be useful for sure.
