Canon 5DMkII firmware out with Black Dot fix - 01-15-2009, 06:41 PM

5DMkII 1.07 firmware.

"
Firmware Update Version 1.0.7 improves and mitigates the following two types
of image quality phenomena that occur under certain shooting conditions.

1. "Black dot" phenomenon (the right side of point light sources
become black)
2. Vertical banding noise

Firmware Version 1.0.7 is for EOS 5D Mark II cameras with firmware up
to version 1.0.6. If the camera's firmware is already version 1.0.7,
it is not necessary to update the firmware.

Example of fix.

"This firmware improves and mitigates this phenomenon."

Does anyone think it's humorous how marketing can't say "problem"?

Covering their butts in case it isn't completely fixed.

It's harder to turn a problem into a positive than it is to turn a phenomenon into a "new feature"....

I think this fix has been out and posted in this forum for over a week now....

Remember: no firmware upgrade will ever fix "lack of talent". ;)

Never had black dots with mine prior to the FW upgrade. Shot all kinds of stuff trying to emulate it (Christmas lights, etc...). After the FW update same thing. So far I have been very pleased with the 5D2 on both 1.06 and 1.07
