Any Pentex film to digital folks out there? - 01-18-2009, 06:37 PM

I met a Pentex film photographer the other day who was asking about switching to digital. We had a nice discussion until he started asking me if his current crop of lenses would work on a digital Pentex.

I have his contact information if someone here can help him.

Thanks

Yes they will. That's the reason I'm still shooting Pentax, had some old lenses. If I wouldn't have had them old lenses I think I would be shooting Nikon now.

Yes they work. The next question (when he gets a Pentax dSLR) will be "why don't they work?" The answer is there's a setting in the custom menu that allows the aperture ring to be manually adjusted (or some similarly obscure reference). For some reason, that's OFF by default, and the first time you try an older lens, you'll just get a flashing "F--" on the top LCD and nothing will happen. Once he changes that custom menu setting, he's golden!

The ability to use any of the old Pentax lenses was one of the reasons I went with Pentax. Plus, they're now image stabilized. :)
