The 5D MKII is big improvement over the 5D. If you need a new camera I would get it in a heartbeat. 21.1 mp, acceptable at ISO 6400, much improved LCD and the biggest kicker is it has a 25% increase in the FPS.

Don't get me wrong, I LOVE my 5D, but I have had it for 3 years and was ready for some new features and capabilities. The 5D Mark II is only marginally faster, but it is faster. The higher ISO performance is def worth it to me. The ability to shoot silently is another reason I wanted it. I could have lived with less resolution, but have decided, for the time being, to shoot at lower res so my RAW files aren't so big. The video feature had negligible impact on my decision, but it is kinda cool. I already knew that my existing 5D would be a more than worthy backup body.
All in all, it was worth it to me.

for those of you that have one, what are your opinions of the autofocus? Particularly in the accuracy and continuous focus departments?

I never thought this would be an issue (I'm pretty pleased with my 5d's autofocus but it's certainly not perfect), but it would be good to know about.

I don't have any issues with the autofocus, I shoot flying birds handheld with a 500mm and a 1.4TC all the time.

i have no issue either with the autofocus - have been able to catch flying bootaneers and track in focus - other things similar to this.

the iso6400 - simply awesome. i have had not one regret for buying this camera.

Sorry, I've been away from the thread. I do have a second body; a 20D. These are all good points, both pro and con. I'm still riding the fence.

Center point Servo is significantly better than version 1. I shoot it regularly side by side with my 1D3 at NHL games through the glass ports and find that it performs extremely well. Gotta say, I was very surprised. I can only guess that 2 newer versions of DIGIC processor and/or tweaking of algorithm contributed.

I'm on a waiting list at Camera Co-op now while I decide. If I decide not to, the next person on the list will be real happy. They seemed to think it would only be a couple of weeks.
