Memory Card Brands & Speeds - 02-10-2009, 01:55 AM

I'm sorry if this topic has been discussed before, but does any one have any experience with TOPRAM CF memory cards? I just purchased a 12 MP camera and I find that 4 GB memory cards just aren't cuttin it. (shooting RAW). I saw some temptingly low prices on EBAY for the TOPRAM brand but I don't know anything about the brand. Any one? Also (excuse my ignorance) but what do the different numbers on the packaging mean? For example: 133x,233x,300x? I know they represent different speeds, but speeds for what? Transfer? Writing? Both? I currently use multiple brands and of different speeds, but they all seem the same to me. Where/when will I notice a 300x CF cards speed most? Any feedback on this topic would be appreciated. Thanks Texans!!!

Mark, I often use the link Andrew posted as it has a ton of info on various cards with specific cameras and their speeds etc.

on the right hand side of the page you notice a drop down box, select the camera model you have and youll be show various cards and their performance in that particular camera...

Mark, most of the time you will not notice the difference between 133 and 300...unless you are shooting several images consecutively....I try to stick with the higher write speeds...30ms to 50ms just in case I do want to burst several images....I use PNY Pro UMDA and Sandisk extreme III to IV cards...I have read too much on card failures from memory off Ebay...I have not experienced it yet...however, my thought is why chance loosing the data for $10 to $15 dollar difference......You can alway find a deal out there...I think you may like this link from the buy/sell area...

Sandisk Rebate

Hope this helps a little....

That link will help with speeds. I never risk important shots on cheap memory cards ... stick with a name brand from a reputable source and test test test them. There are some good deals on cards almost all the time.
