This is one exciting camera! It's simply beautiful. I know the price will include a free trip to the ISS but it's still going to be fun to see what it can do.

$65K. Really. And I thought Nikon was crazy for an $8K D3X...

Where do you get 65k? Speculation on LUF is 15-20K.

Here is more than just a Blub on it. Full Leica pages including images, lenses and more. There were working prototypes as far back as Photokina.

By the time you buy a few diamond coated lenses, it will be close to that. I did read 20K Eu which at release time could equal $65K USD

Yes I jest....

No way that this will cost only 20K. I say at least 35K.

Actually, after you buy a new computer, max out it's ram, and add a few more terrabytes of backup storage, just to deal with the size of each image you've got to work with and store, you've exceeded that 65K

I believe that Leica may have actually found a profitable nitch market with this camera; a market that I won't be in but for some pros who need a camera for both inside the studio and outside it may be an attractive choice. Now if Leica would only update the sensor technology in their M series!

Leica dove into the market with only 1. inside info that Canon was doing larger than Full Frame , and 2. a hasty drawn spec sheet ! So they could beat Canon to the Punch ...

Expect new such equip from Canon at a lower price.

Would be nice to know the lenes circle of illumination and what the edge fall off is if any...

I don't expect to see Canon compete with it's 1DsMkIII anytime soon. We've been hearing rumors of the MF Canon for several years and this is the best we've got. Looks a little boxie.

Not going to happen until the S2 and R10 are rolled out and on the shelves. The M8.2 is still a good revenue stream.

Maybe a model at Photokina 2010.

MF back shooters routinely deal with larger files. Ram and Disk are cheap....

Wake up and smell the coffee !!
You don't get it nor are privy to old Canon inside info.
Canon looked into a few years ago and apparently nixed it over MF ,,,
Looks like Leica was snooping at Canon's Garbage can or Old US Patent fillings to fill up something they hope for in a market ...

645 MFDSLR at 3x larger image area than FF DSLR is considered much more.
My Mamiya Phase One 645 AFD w Phase 1 P+39 handles like 35 camera and is
the clear advertising commerical choice for a money camera at 30K.
Iff it came out before MFDSLSR or had a price weight advantange ...
otherwise it is just an odd ball in a now saturated market.

Just looking at the current tumble in MF prices, I'd say if Canon does get into the MF game, it will be by picking up the scraps of one of the current players in the next few years once all the blood has been drained. Hey, we already have Mamiya and Phamiya, maybe we can get some Camiya too!

You need to drink some coffee because the S2 is not from Canon's old garbage. As for Mamiya, not the quality Glass that Leica will deliver.

Sheesk ... I can see why they shove old folks into old folk homes ...
The Format along with various others between FF and MF is.
Japan pattened many of these werido formats. They will patten anything ...
For lack of a better term ...
they are mixed formats or what was refered to B..tard Formats years ago.
Japan figured not practical and based on weight perfomance price and quality.
Real photographers of the NYC advertising commercial world would agree.
Larger Semiconductor image chips will also continue to decrease price greatly.

Makes sense a company like Leica would adopt if they want any kind of future.
You might note that real Photo Engieering is much more than stupid photo forums
and you could increase yourself w US Japan Europe Filled Pattens along with many other real engineering publs.
Or ... just continue to Milk your Leica and fill your old age with photo forums ...
I got better ...

It is ok to disagree on topics and information but you definitely need to learn how to do it in a civil manner.

This manner is not acceptable here on TPF.
