If you're happy with your Mavica, then I'd say any camera made today will satisfy you. Go to your local Fry's or Best Buy and find the smallest/cheapest/whatever-est camera you like and buy it. If you stick to the brand names, you should be fine. They will all give you better results than your Mavica simply because technology has advanced well beyond what was capable then.
Canon, Sony, Nikon, Pentax, Olympus, Samsung, Kodak are all decent to excellent. Just buy the one that strikes your fancy. Since you obviously keep and use your cameras for a long time (something that most of us here can't relate to), you might want to spend a little more on a camera so it has a greater chance of lasting as long as your Mavica has. | | | | | Sponsored Links | Premium Members do not see Google advertisements. I just got the Panasonic LX3 and love it. It is smaller than the G-10 and takes great shots. I suspect $399 does not meet you thrifty budget though.

I've tried many P&S (specifically pocket cameras)...Canon always wins in my book.
The one thing that gets me is that Canon (like many others) has like 30 different pocket cameras that are basically the same...just more MP (who cares?).
The optical zoom varies from 3x to 5x...5x is rare.
The only thing that is really different between all the different model numbers is the button layout and slight LCD screensize differences...
I wish they'd just make a series and release a new model once a year :\

I'm amateur, so that's all I need.
Thanks, y'all, for your suggestions - I'm making lists and visiting websites (including EBay) :)

Here is a good place to check out small sensor cameras by some serious users of that format.

Dang, I can't find it but there was a killer photo article on MSN.com yesterday about the new digital cameras that lead the pack in megapixels, zoom, burst mode (nikon has one that does 15FPS!) but I can't find it today. I think the article may have been from PCPhoto but I'm not sure.

Poor focus behind the camera creates as many bad photos as poor focus through the camera!

Another vote for Panasonic LX3.
The silver finish is easy to find. You'll pay extra for a black finish because they seem to be more popular, therefore more expensive.
I got the silver finsh and really like it!
