Question Seeking small digital camera - opinions? - 03-08-2009, 10:42 PM

I love my Sony Mavica CD1000 but ONLY for actual events or whatnot - where I'm taking SEVERAL pictures.

HOWEVER, I'd like a small digital camera for those times I only take a few (like if the cat's standing on it's head, etc).
All this finalizing, uploading, picking out a few pictures, then initializing is WAY too much trouble for just a FEW pictures. And, it doesn't fit in my purse.

Lynn's the technologically-inclined, HE says we need:
At least 7.0 megapixel with 4 gig memory card.

I say: it also needs to be ECONOMICAL, small, and EASY to use. LOL

Thank you for your opinions, experiences, recommendations, etc...

This appears to be a pretty hot item right now. Andrew of Crystal Clear Media uses one and claims to really like it.

Cell phones can make wonderful pictures - for example, http://photocritic.org/amazing-iphone-photos/

The LX3 is good and expensive. I'd look a the smallish Canon Elf cameras if budget is an issue.

This is the camera my then GF, now fiancee got me for Christmas.

I liked it so much, I am going to marry her.

And by it, I mean her. The camera is nice, too.

It meets all but the economical but is an outstanding small camera designed for a photographer, the Ricoh G-RDII.

I would recommend the Canon's over the Sony's right now. The menu system for the Sony Cybershot is terrible now. It takes too many steps to do anything, and a lot of those steps are just looking around to find whatever setting it is you want to change.

i just bought the nikon s630. not too expensive, 7x optical zoom, fits in my pocket. and i just printed a 13x17 picture out and it is ok. (well it is a compact) actually considering it is just jpg and form a compact camera i was quite happy. ( i am taking a cruise around italy and wont be carrying my d2x, so this is a backup to my d300. wouldnt want to come back with no photos if the 300 goes south)
