I know this topic has probably been beat to death - but.....

I am looking for a new flatbed scanner with a good DMAX.

Recommendations please.

What film formats will you be scanning? 35mm slides and negs? Lots of choices. Medium format? Maybe a dozen choices. Large Format? Only three choices, among new scanners, that I know of.

Best,

Michael

Opps, my fault for not clarifying, only old prints - I have the film scanned at the lab.

Thanks,

Can't go wrong with the Epson 750-M. I got to use one for an afternoon several weeks ago and it'll be my next flatbed.

For prints? I'm not sure you need more than a $100 (+ or -) flatbed. An all in one scan-copy-fax-print machine would work. I use an HP Officejet 7310 that accepts their photo ink cartridges (3 color or 3 gray) for printing my photos and for scanning old photos.

Au contraire mon frere. I was using the 750-M to scan Old show prints and reprint them on an Epson 4xxx and you could not have gotten the print quality with an all in one. These were archival grade prints made on graded Agfa Brovia papers in the late '60 and early 70's. After all DMAX was mentioned.

Thanks to all, not sure what I will do, but I will probably go with something along the lines of the Epson.

I just picked up the CanoScan 8800F. Part of my reason was the ability to scan 35mm negatives. It does well on prints too.

Keep an eye on the Epson Clearance Center and/or a low mileage Epson 4990.

I have the Canon 4490 which I assume is an older version of the 4990 mentioned above. I have scannes all my slides, negatives and prints and it works wonderful on all three. Plus it can batch scan (fit as many prints and up to 5 slides) at a time and it will scan seperate files. Also has Digital Ice that works very well for cleaning up dust and such on slides.
