I think you are going to have a lot of fun with the 300MM F/4. I'll answer your first question before you ask it. "Yes" the IS is a little noisy on this lens. I have seen this question come up on several forums and the answer is always yes. Mine is noisy too, but who cares. Look at your results.

You'll also find this lens to be very versatile. It will focus at less than five feet. Last weekend, my wife and I attended a party at her boss's ranch in Cat Springs. I sat back away from the crowd and shot photos of people without them knowing they were being photographed.

Good luck and have fun. I talked with the President and he said you have done enough for the economy. Go out and take some photos.......

The only bad thing is it won't mount to your Kodak MAX disposable. What a bummer!

Hey Bro! I shot it with the Siggy 24-70 f/2.8. I love that lens. Strangely enough, while it is the only non-canon lens I have, its the one I think I use the most. The reason I bought a Sigma instead of the Canon, is I reckon that Canon will come out with a 24-70 f/2.8 L II IS soon. The current 24-70 model has been out forever, and I didn't want to get upstaged in a year.

You really think Canon would like to make the brick into a cinder block? If they pull it off, I would make the change and sell off my brick and the 24-105 f4L in a heart beat.

It's probably every Canon brick owners wet dream if a brick 2.8L IS is released. It might cannibalize sales though. Also, keep in mind when do Canon Execs ever listen to their customers?

I dunno. I'm speculating. Maybe perhaps, its just really, really wishful thinking. My thinking is that a LOT of serious Canon photogs hav either the 20-104 f/4, or the 24-70 f/2.8 in either Canon or Sigma variants. I don't know if you would call it "market saturation", but it certainly makes sense. I think the 24-70 lens has been around since around 2000-2001ish. I certainly think it would generate HUGE sales. People would flock over from Sigma in droves, and it might become the new "defacto pro kit lens" the same way that the 24-105 f/4 is today. I know quite a few people who are unimpressed by the IQ of the 24-105.

I've heard just the opposite. It's one of the best Canon makes in the range from people I know who use it all the time. The 24-70 is a quality lens, but I want the extra reach and will sacrifice the wider aperture for it.

This lens gets a rating of 9/10 by users at fredmiranda.com, 5/5 stars by reviewers at B&H, and gets a favorable recommendation at photozone.de. I've owned two of them. I replaced the first one with the 24-70 F2.8L, then about a year later sold it and bought another 24-105. Sacrificing one stop for the extra reach was no problem for me. Granted, it isn't perfect, but I've shot my share of events with it and have been very satisfied with the results.

Forget the 24-70, what about a 24-105 F/2.8 L IS. Who cares about the price, Marv has already set the pace and will buy the first one.
