June 11th Speaker is Carver Shivers

carverCarver Shivers, CPP, the son of a Tuskegee Airman and Congressional Gold Medal of Honor recipient - the nation's highest and most distinguished civilian award for his acts of exceptional service and lifetime achievement; is also a former Air Force Fighter Pilot and NASA Engineer who started SHIVERS PHOTOGRAPHY in 1991. Carver specializes in Wedding and Portrait Photography offering a unique blend of distinctive and creative photographic imaging. In DEC 2000 Carver switched to the digital medium for weddings, but continues to use mainly large format film (4x5) for most portraits. Carver is an award winning photographer working towards his Master and Camera Craftsman degrees. His current digital camera is the Canon 20D system he uses for weddings.

Carver is an active and contributing member of the Professional Photographers of America (PPA), The Wedding and Portrait Photographers International (WPPI) The Southwest Photographers Association (SWPA) , the Texas PPA and served as the 2005 President of the Professional Photographers Guild of Houston (PPGH). Carver is also a pilot, aircraft owner, musician, and Past State President of the Bronze Eagles Flying Club of Texas - an organization of minority pilots, former military and civilian; dedicated to keeping the memory and acomplishments alive of the Tuskegee Airman and introducing youth of color to the field of aerospace and science. Carver is lucky to have Louise as his wife and blessed to have two fine talented Sons, Garrett and Jordan.

Carver discovered Painter in 1995. With his unique approach to portraiture augmented with the use of Painter, Carver created his Renaissance Portraiture. This two hour program will introduce you to the the workings of Painter X and will show you some of the unique powers Painter X has to help the photographer create wonderful works of art.

MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT
Howdy all...

For this months meeting, we will be back in my studio. Don't forget to Bring Your Own Chair... I do not have a hot tub nor a BBQ grill, so we have to make due with what I have... (For those who attended last months meeting, i hope you get the reference..) Enjoyed Doug's party.. We probably should start a committee for a Christmas party at Dougs...

As promised, we will be having a print competition. We are not going to fully stick to PPA competition judging as we do not have PPA judges.

The rules are as follows...

Please print 16x20's, mounted on mat board.

Do not worry about competition density...

Prints will be displayed publicly. Each guild member will receive one voting slip.

Each member will vote. You cannot vote for your own print.

1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winners will be announced at the end of the meeting.

This is our first official print competition. We will have an official Photographer of the Year at the end of the year...
I will not enter, so anyone wanting to ask questions, please feel free to email me..

Also, we have started an unofficial lunch group. We go usually at noon on Wednesdays. Please call my cell phone at 229-7311 or the office 695-8201 Wednesday morning if you want to go... We will try to coordinate more later, but we will probably go to China King this week to make it simple.

If you missed last months meeting you missed great food and a wonderful program given by very our own Doug Box. We want to say thank you to Dennis Grimes and Kelvin Morrison for cooking the fish for us. We also appreciate all the others who brought the side items. And last but surely not least lets all say a BIG thanks to Doug for the program on outdoor lighting and opening up his studio and hot tub to us. I know we all had a great time.
This month we are back to Darrin's Studio. BYOC! Bring your own chair!!!!!!
