Definitely works for me.....nice composition, details in the shadows, nice cloud exposure and a nice variety of colors.

Photographically I agree with Jeff. All the technical stuff is right on, you did a great job with it. The story doesn't work for me though. It just doesn't feel like it was abandoned in the weeds to me, more like it was placed there. The tires look brand new & except for the broken glass, the tractor is clean and doesn't look like it's been there long enough for the grass to grow up around it. I'm not positive, but I think I see part of a recent tire track. Maybe I'm just being to picky. It is a nice shot Darryl.

I agree.. it's a good shot... but it just doesn't look abandoned/neglected to me. The paint isn't faded/oxidized, little to no rust on it, rims and tires are too clean, etc.

The reason I called it a recession photo is because the tractor looks new (showing the optimism) but things went bad and it was left in the field suggesting that there's no money to fix it. That's the reason I frame the tractor as I did because I wanted to show how clean the tires looked, but the window was busted. The photo was suppose to suggest how quickly things went bad in our economy. But the sky is still blue and the grass is still green...

I like the processing that was done, but I think it takes away from my original purpose of the photo. Of course, I'm biased.

I understand the attempt, but it just isn't speaking those words to me. perhaps a sepia, bw or some other tonal treatment might get it across better. Perhaps just darkening it a bit, the sky could use some drama.

Bright colors aren't depressing enough to me......

Understood. I like them both, personally.

...it's not suppose to depressing. It's suppose to say, "despite all this, the grass is still green and the sky is blue", suggesting there'll be new days ahead. But I guess if I have to explain the photo, I didn't do my job right.

Final verdict.....we all see things differently and always will.....otherwise, this world would be one boring place.

OK, I get it now.....sometimes the issue isn't the mesage but the receiver....it happens often I'm told. Often.

but yes, to a larger degree if it has to be explained it isn't quite working. In this case, I think the issue is simply the title, as mentioned the pic is technically spot on.

Maybe avoid the confusion for the denser viewing audience members and just whack us upside the head with a title that simply says "Bluer Skies Ahead".

Bold is good...

I have to remember to "assume your audience is the lowest common denominator". But good suggestion. I'll change the name of the photo. I've been working on coming up with photo names for my Flickr since IMG_XXX is not really enticing. LOL.
