If you go to the LBJ Historical Park in Stonewall, Texas (just outside of Fredericksburg), there is a small working 1918 farm which is part of the Texas Parks System. The thing that makes this "attraction" so unique is the workers are not period actors, they are actually running a real 1918 farm. The raise animals, butcher them, smoke meat, make lye soap, grow and can vegetables, milk cows, make butter and cheese, wash their clothes by hand, etc. They have no utilities (they get water from the well and use oil burning lamps, etc.) and use the outhouse. The workers actually eat the food they grow and preserve all year round. Depending on what season you visit, they will be doing the chores required for that time. It's a cool place to take some pictures of an old farm and a lot of fun taking to the people there.
PS. My daughter is the young girl; the other lady is one of the park/farm staff.
