Looks really good. Something I found can help with neon is blowing it out of focus at certain parts of the zoom, spreads the light and gives a more gentle effect. You can see it in this shot:

So you'd zoom the lens like you've done, but also play with the focus while doing it.

Very interesting Gordon. Guess it doesn't matter which way you adjust the focus (closer vs farther)? I'll try that next time the day doesn't start at 80º with me wearing shorts and then once the sun goes down it turns to like 40º and I am freezing my buns off!!!!! And I hear it's suppose to snow on Wednesday? Lovely Texas weather.

Yup - it was a cold one today! The focus direction will possibly give slightly different effects - particularly if there is say something further behind the subject that would become in focus one way, or further out of focus the other. Mostly though it just pays to play around with different things. Another thing to try is a smooth zoom, then pause, then zoom again - each time you stop the neon records brighter than when it was zooming, so in the shot above, there were about 3 distinct places I stopped, and they show - and for the last one I changed the focus (the largest letters) that then 'bloom' around the lines.

I have tons that didn't quite work or were steps on the way to getting something that I did like in the end.
