I think The Ben has guts. And, one would hope, good hands. ;)

It is an interesting concept. I always wanted to stick one in an R/C helicopter or plane.

As cool of a concept it is, I'm not the one that came up w/ it. Kevin Swan and Mark Larson have mastered it, and I just asked for their help on how to do it w/ a Nikon. They bracket their pics w/ a 2 second delay, which isn't possible on a Nikon.

Cool. I'll set up my backup's backup (with the kit lens) on a timer and try this...

I'm assuming you're on f/22 or something high like that?

Might as well just look into one of these: MikroKopter - Wiki: MikroKopter.de IIRC, the eight-rotor versions have enough payload capacity for a light DSLR, and I'd think by adding a good HD video camera, you could do some really interesting freelance journalism.

Those turned out pretty good. I like the concept and I have seen some of Mark Larson's stuff out there from weddings throwing it up in the middle of the wedding party. I just don't have the huevos to try it myself, even with my admittedly lower end D300.

I hate to encourage this type of photography, because, one wrong move and BAM! Literally!

It is pretty cool though.

They both are cool, but they look better rotated 90 degrees left to me.

I did some similar shots years ago by putting a ball head on the end of a long stick with a pneumatic release. I guess a remote would work better.

I actually wanted to do it w/ my D300, but I had to get the camera to ISO 1600 to get it to properly expose at 1/2000th... and we all know the D300 is not as stout as the D700 at ISO 1600. So then, I just grabbed 1 of my D700s and started "practicing"
