The first doesnt even really look too much like and HDR (which can be a good thing or a bad thing depending on your point of view).
The second does to a slightly higher degree although you could probably achieve the same look in Lightroom without combining exposures. What program are you using to produce the HDR?
Personally I'm more or less over wide-angle HDR's of architecture (but that's just me), I prefer to use it in detail shots, maybe give that a try!
