That was pretty sweet, I'd like to know what other equipment you were working with and the specs. Did you use a polarizing filter while shooting into the sun?

Did you use any rail systems for that?

Great stuff, Jake.

Looks a lot like Santa Rosa Beach.

Thanks, the only filters I use were ND's in most of the day shots.
As far as gear, I used the Canon 5d2 and T2i.
Lenses:
Canon 16-35, the 24-105, the 15mm fisheye, and an off brand 80mm tilt/shift.
For the motion I used the Dynamic Perception Stage Zero dolly.

Thanks! It's not far from there, it was Blue Mountain beach.

Very cool Jake! Excellent work!
LOL your dolly was visible in that one shot.
Questions:
- What were you using for an intervalometer?
- Whats the EXIF on the night shots with the sky (when you can see the constellation going by)
- how many people called the police?...LOL (mommy, there's this guy on the balcony that's had his camera pointed at us all day...) Just kidding.

Thanks! Yeah, finding the time to do these is by far the hardest part.

For the non-moving shots I use an off-brand remote intervalometer. This one I believe:

I don't have the photo in front of me right now, but I think the constellation shot was at 25 secs, f/2.8 ISO1600. But I had to push it in post because it was still a little dark once the moon set.

You joke about the police being called, but I was really concerned someone might think that! But no one even said anything to me, heck no even talked to me until I got the dolly out and then people were interested in what was going on. Not in a concerned way, just curious about the setup.

I'm a little jealous that you have a count down to retirement...
If you have any questions about how to do this, ask away! It's not as hard as it looks.

I'm speechless Jake! Watched the whole video and don't feel like I wasted a second of my time. Thanks for posting. Sure, I would like to know how to do this but my question is, how many exposures?

Thanks Jim!
I filled a few cards for this project.
Each clip is rendered at 24 frames per second......so 24 photos for every second of video, and the video is 3 minutes long = a lot of exposures..

As far as the ND filter, what number and/or how many did you use? I have this slight fear of taking shots that would simply overwhelm the filter.

I was using one .9 ND filter. I believe there is only one shot where I'm shooting into the sun.
Shooting into the sun with a filter on can cause issues, but I always take a few test shots and look at them real closely before committing to a time-lapse of the scene.

Cool. While I loved the entire film you put in, that one shot stuck out in my mind of "How the hell did he not fry his sensor?"

I'd like to do a time lapse of the city during the day, but I'm getting a bit queasy about how to set up a shot.

Eventually, I'd like to get into astrophotography, but I have no idea if I can ever put together a time lapse sequence like you.
