San Antonio Mission Trail 2nd Trip - 10-11-2011, 09:02 PM

Critique: CC:

I went on another trip to the San Antonio Mission Trail and was inspired by a post of a rusty door knob on another forum board. Not as good as but I am very satisfied with my first attempt.

Thanks for the looks and C/C is always welcome.

Very nice images, cool post processing too. Image 3 is probably my favorite, especially if you provide a bit more detail not the old door. On 1 and 2 the use of new hardware next to old one makes it harder for the images to have stronger impact, not your fault of course.

I agree with Paco about the processing. I'm very impressed with the even lighting. Can you share how you achieved that?

I was trying to get a shot of the entire church, San Juan, but there were way too many people. I looked for the features that grabbed my attention the most and that was the main entrance to the church and the archs on the backside. I never noticed the 3 new screws in the knocker and I agree.

For the even lighting it was a lot of luck IMO. Mother nature wasn't playing nice and it was overcast mid-morning. The handle was shot at 1/50 @ f/4.5 and the knocker was 1/20 @ f/8.0 and both were w/o support.

I like these a lot, and for having to work around people I think you did a great job. #3 and #4 feel like they have a little bit of lean to them. In #3 the bottom of the door frame is obviously level with the edge of the picture, so I don't know if you're not square with the door or if the building leans. I end up with photos like that all the time, and I really need to figure out what I'm doing wrong (personally I have a feeling I'm not lined up with my subject right since I take pictures of new buildings, and I'm pretty sure those don't lean ).

I think my favorite is #3. The aged/dirty stone almost gives a natural vignette to the door which really draws your focus to it, but then the sky is also drawing your eye to the cross at the top. Very nicely done.

I noticed the "lean" as well but I'm pretty sure I just may have been not squared up with it. Thanks for the C/C!
