Bowties, Ties & Pocket Squares - 12-13-2011, 03:56 PM

Critique: NC:

A few samples from a commercial shoot.
Images to be used on website, catalog and in other marketing materials.
This is the lifestyle portion. Still have to do individual detail shots in the studio for the catalog.

I decided to use all natural light and reflectors for this portion of the project.

Comments welcome.

Nicely done, Dennis! Great detail and color in the shots and the layout really highlights the product. Very cool. Hard to believe it was all natural light and reflectors. Impressive!

I think you did very well. Composition, exposure, focus, WB looks good to me.
Only nits are in number 4, the blown out window is a bit distracting, and the young lady in 2 needs a bit more of a smile.

Excellent use of backgrounds and use of available light. Wonder what # 4 would look like with tungsten WB and gold reflectors or CTO gelled strobe.

Product is obvious, but not insultingly blaring. Client should be exceptionally pleased.

Thanks for the comments!

Yes, client was very pleased.

On #4, it just so happens I was using a "soft gold" reflector. It has lines of gold mixed with lines of white. But i have not messed with the white balance.

As per the window... ya... it was kind of a double edged sword. Since I wanted the end user to focus more on the product, i figured it was ok to blow out the windows. If i left them more properly exposed, we would see some pretty ugly stuff out there. Now if there was trees or nice looking buildings or something better to look at, that would be a different story.

I agree about the smile (or lack thereof) in #2.

Thanks again!
