A few impromptu portraits - 02-07-2012, 03:44 PM

Critique: CC:

A while back I came home from work to find a friend who was in hair/make-up school practicing on my girlfriend. They asked if I'd take a few pictures. I don't have any backdrops, so I grabbed a comforter from the laundry room, and a 250w photogenic flash from the closet.

Our APBT Ace, just had to be the center of attention so I let him in on the fun. Being she's not a model and I had next to no portrait experience at the time, the composition is probably not the best. (I know, her arms shouldn't be so straight)

Feel free to comment or critique, I'm planning to do some new portraits of the dog soon. I'd like to put together something showing the sweet side of a widely misunderstood breed.

I really like the third one. It looks like they are both having a great time. The light looks a little flat, but I like it.

The third was definately my favorite too. What might have caused it to look flat? It was a pretty small room and I couldn't move the flash very far back. Maybe a soft box would have helped?

white balance is different in the images, look at the white on the backdrop, see how it changes colors?

Now that you mention it, I think I had the camera on AWB. Should have been set to flash I suppose. I haven't played with custom either.
