Valentine Dinner that, - 02-14-2006, 08:32 PM

I prepared tonight for TLOML, Sheryl.

Mussels, Shrimp, in a wine sauce, and Pasta. Bread (bought), Olive oil and Pepper, and a bottle of wine.

Sorry for the OOF. always, always take multiple shots just in case!
On a bed of pasta.

The aftermath, well the part I will show you!

Just snapshots with the 717, no real effort to make them anything else.

Jake, when I had little kids, Chuck E. Cheese was romantic. You are doing GOOD right now. Enjoy it.

Bread, buy the stuff, pour some olive oil in a shallow dish and grind some black pepper into it. Dip and eat the bread, while you both drink the rest of the bottle of wine that didn't go into the soup.

Boil some pasta, nothing required but water and pasta, don't let it boil over, it's hard to clean up.

Get some mussels at the foo-foo supermarket. Tom Thumb has them sometimes. They are alive and should have the shells closed. Get some big 'ol honkin' shrimp and defrost them and peel them if you have to. No big deal.

In a stock pot (that's the big one in the cheap set we all bought), pour a bit of olive oil in and set the heat pretty high. Have a clove of garlic and a small onion already chopped up with the cheap knife set we can all afford. Saute the stuff until it starts looking just a hair brown. Dump in a can of "Italian Diced" tomatos from the super. Dump in 2 cups of red wine at the same time. We had white, I used white. I'm a beer guy, wine is a mystery to me. Get it boiling, but not going crazy. Hit that mess with some salt "Bam" and a bit of Basil, Parsley, and Oregano. If you don't know how much, fake it and tell her, it's an exact science. Offer her more wine about now. I added in a couple of thinly sliced lemons at this point.

Put the mussels in the boiling liquid for about 10 minutes or less. At about the 7 minute mark, give or take, put the shrimp in the soup, and bring 'er back to a boil. About that time the shrimp will be pink, and everything will be ready. Put some pasta in a bowl, (you did drain the water, off the stuff when it was done, right?) Spoon some mussels, shrimp, and liquid onto the pasta. Serve up the second bottle of wine. Sheryl doesn't drink much, so I popped open another beer. (substitution). Enjoy, and act like you watch Emeril every day of the week.

Note: if the any of the mussels that were closed, didn't open up when you cooked them, discard them, they were dead, and you don't want to eat them and get yourself like-wise.

See-there, German Texans CAN cook I-talian!

Hey Jerry...Looks like yall had a great meal....We won the pit crew auction for the June truck race....Looking forward to it. Janet has her hip replaced (3rd time) on March 6 and we are hoping for a quick recovery and rehab. Maybe we can get together for a cool one this time......
