The Old Feed Store on Main Street - 04-18-2005, 08:46 PM

For many many years this old building housed the Smithfield Feed Store. It is probably the oldest commercial building in Smithfield. While it was a feed store it took on the appearance of what a Rural Feed Store must have looked like around the turn of the 20th Century.

The feed store moved to a nearby modern, tin building, location, and the old store was turned into a BBQ restaurant.

This is now the Cotton Belt BBQ. Named for the SLSWRR, aka, Cotton Belt RR tracks that pass nearby. This is the RR that the Tarantula Train runs on between Grapevine and Ft. Worth.

I miss the old feed store, after they moved they sold it and now its just not a feed store anymore. I wish I had taken some good pictures when it was the feed store, with the boots in the barrel.

So how is the BBQ, have you tried it, I here its good just never stopped in.

Now speaking of restaurants, have you been to the ConoCo on Watauga.

No, I have never eaten there. Actually, I went up there Sunday to catch the Tarantula coming down the tracks...but alas...the durn ole diesel was pulling the train, Bummer! I just couldn't come back to the house empty, so I took a picture of the old feed store. I hated it when they went modern! I liked that old place, boots n' jeans in the barrel and all. And the fresh smell of the new feed and the old wood floor and timbers.
