A classic memory - 08-08-2006, 07:35 PM

For us train nuts, no modern paint scheme was better than the Santa Fe Warbonnet. Alas, corporate buyouts and politically correct group-think has sent one of the most identifiable corporate icons to the rust heap of history.

A few of these gems are still running the rails, and sometimes I get to see one here in Houston. Sunday was one such fortunate day. Sure, the paint is faded and peeling and rust is creeping thru. It's no longer on priority routes.

But I see the glory of history.

For some reason I always associate the Warbonnet Paint with the older F3's of the passenger era. Maybe I just always liked the way the F3's looked...kind of sleek and ready to run. Alas, another thing for the memory banks and old photo archives only.

I presonally would like to see a high contast b/w conversion. Between these two I like the color one, the sepia just seems bland.... but hey what do I know??

I prefer the color shot as well. As I have no idea what a "Warbonnet" paintjob should look like, I can see the faded paint in the color.

Nice shot!
