William,

Thanks for doing this. Your picture is hilarious. And you're right. I know there is some place around here that has some weird restaurant combination like that. Only in Texas. I have to be cliche and throw up a picture of a longhorn from my grandmother's farm.

Lake Jackson, Texas!

I passed through Lake Jackson and noticed a weird street named "This Way". I made a mental note of where the intersection was so that I could stop by later that day. Once I was headed back to houston I drove back through Lake Jackson and made it a point to drive down "This Way" and find a good place to take a picture of the sign. As it turns out I stumbled across "That Way" about 2 blocks off of the highway and knew I found the perfect intersection. These are true actual street names and I just had to shoot a few pictures of it.

Abel, THAT is hilarious. Hilarious. You should post that for this week's PhotoFriday challenge of Signs.

William, I love the way the longhorn is stepping out of the picture. That's great.

Catfish heads - 01-16-2005, 10:53 PM

I found this scene outside of Austin. A series of catfish heads hung on a farm fence. Only in Texas.

Great shot of the catfish heads. I like the B/W the best. Takes me back to my childhood going to the farm with my father. That was a common practice along with coyote hides in North Texas.

haha, the this way, that way intersection. I remember when I was on the Aisle mammoth dig, we were told by some of the local anthropologists to keep an eye out for the intersection.
I did not believe them, thinking they were just making fun or what not..
they said that when the city engineers planned the roads for the city, 2 were left nameless, so this way and that way were cleverly used.

This is really great!

You won't believe this but I saw those street signs today while travelling fron San Barnard NWR to Angleton. I was laughing about the first one that said 'This Way' then I saw the one that said "That Way".

I also saw the fish heads hanging on the fence, that was shown too, while on the way back to Dallas. We went down 36 then 77 and I saw these things hanging on this fence and I slowed down to look and saw they were fish heads. I was focused on trying to shoot hawks while on the way back so I had my 500 on my 1Ds in my lap checking the trees along the highway.

It took me 9 hours to drive from Angleton to Dallas.
