Talking New Leica M8! First photos... - 04-21-2007, 06:26 PM

Hello all,

after considering this for a while, I finally ended up purchasing a Leica M8 for my street work - as lenses go, budget & availability in my local store didn't allow more than a (not so) lowly Voigtlander 35mm f2.5, for the moment, soon to be sided by a couple more CV lenses. Leica glass will, hopefully, follow - in the meantime, I will try and put what I have to a good use. Here a few samples out of my first day of shooting with the new M8: I love it already, feels like going back to the days I begun photography. My photographic story started more than 20 years ago, went through Nikon F, Fm2 - I got the chance to use a couple of film Leicas but never owned one - then F5 & finally digital with a short D70 time followed by D2x (2)... ok, enough talk, here comes the pics, from a day out in Istanbul:

and, of course, one of my fiancee:

last, my very first M8 pic: of course, the Leica salesguy...

C&C welcome and much appreciated.

Fantastic images...yes, a digital rangefinder would be wonderful in so many ways. Congratulations on the camera and please continue to let us know how you like it.

A fantastic camera with so many features.
Best of all, it is a rangefinder. Is the shutter noisy ??
Nice photos.

Hey John, thank you very much for your comment! I am loving it actually, and it always comes with me wherever I go. A completely different way of seeing the world compared to a DSLR... I did post some stuff done with it here:

Nice photos.
Hey Tom, indeed a camera with just what you need feature-wise, and a rangefinder - not perfect, as you know (AA filter & vignetting problems) and very different from a D2x (my other cameras); but the RF way is a great way of seeing the world through a lens. Smaller, lighter, unobstrusive, great IQ, great glass... what more do you need? the shutter is a little noisy, low-pitch, the cocking mechanism has a humming whirling noise after shooting. Not the clunk of my D2x, but definitely not as silent as the manual M series cameras. Thanks for your comment,
