River Legacy Parks Flood 2007 (8 images) - 06-28-2007, 05:22 PM

My self-appointed assignment today was to photograph River Legacy Parks in Arlington during flood stage. Here are a few from the adventure. (Someone had better comment on these because I got soaked while there! )

I, also, saw one of the elusive RLP bobcats. Followed him for a few yards but didn't have the right lens mounted for a good shot.

Green Oaks Blvd. entrance into RLP. The sign says it all.

For those of you familiar with RLP, you can see immediately from this image of the main bridge that the Trinity is at flood stage.

River view from main bridge.

Once known as simply Rose Meadows, where children used to run and play, it is now Rose Meadows Pond.

Rose Meadows picnic area.

Part of the parking lot and Wildflower Area submerged in water.

This small bridge is normally passable via foot and bike. It is now part of the river.

And, of course, the rain shower that I got caught in.

Pretty impressive, John. I've only seen it that high one other time, i.e., to the base of the bridge over the West Fork. Glad I got my "marsh" shots when I did. Looks like the whole place is a marsh now.

Thanks, Bruce. There was plenty of evidence that the river was much higher at the peak of the rains than it is now. Still way above normal, though, and in that "Rare" flood plain stage as designated by the parks authority. It will be a while before the park opens again. Your marsh shots were well timed. :-)

Hi John,

Nice photos! It rained really hard this morning here in SA. I swear I saw some fishes snorkeling in the backyard!<g>

Best regards,

Thanks, Arlon! I don't doubt that one bit.

Jake, you ain't kidding that's a lot of water. I've never seen the Trinity that high in that area before today.
