Thanks again guys. This section of the wall is about an hour drive from Beijing. We got there as part of a private tour with a tour guide and a driver. They drive like New York taxi cab drivers on steroids in China so I would not even consider renting a car.

I didn't smell any strange odor but maybe I missed it due to my heaving breathing when going up.

All my photos of the Great Wall are gone. They were shot on film and my wife accidentally (yeah, right) threw out the package.

All I remember was my legs hurting.

I recently went to an exhibit of prints by Chen Changfen at the Museum of Fine Art here and it was amazing. To be able to spend so much time photographing such a wonderful structure is just incredible.

I bought the book they were selling and it is simply inspiring.

Like I've said before, I haven't been in China since April of last year and I am having withdrawal symptoms! I may have to contact Masoncn here for some advice on planning a photo tour.

Thanks Dora. To say that I was a little winded would be an understatement. We only had 2 hrs there so there wasn't much time to do anything but walk up and down the steps.

Bummer about losing your photo's. Thanks for the link to Chen Changfen's photo's. They are amazing. Sounds like you need a road trip back to China. I can feel your withdrawal symptoms. I find myself drinking green tea at work now and craving real Chinese food.
