I went on a business trip to China over the last couple of weeks and got a chance to see the Great Wall. We went to Juyongguan Pass, which was first completed in the Ming Dynansty in 1368 and has been rebuilt several times since. It was a little chilly with some snow and temp's in the 20's which helped to keep the crowds light. I found out how really out of shape that I am with some very steep sections to climb. No blue sky photo op's but it was very cool to see it. Had a great time in Beijing and Shanghai and would love to go back on vacation some time.

Cool Tim, it is an impressive thing to see in person, and think about what it took to build it. Glad you got to go and see some things while you were there. Did you go to the Forbidden City or Temple of Heaven in Bejing?

The light dusting of snow adds to the scene in #3. Hope you had a good time.

Thanks everyone. I had a great time in China. Got to spend the first weekend in Beijing adjusting to the 14 hr time difference and taking tours each day. My hotel was only a couple of blocks away from Tiananmen Square and the Forbidden City, which I could see from the balcony of my room. Toured those areas on Sat along with the Summer Palace and the Temple of Heaven. Also got to see a jade factory and silk factory which were very interesting. Spent the following week in Shanghai doing the business stuff along with some walking around and shopping. Got a chance to eat some very interesting food. I'll post some more photo's later.

also i heard from some local chinese ppl when i was visiting HK recently that the wall has a strange odor about it ... did you notice that?
if so, maybe that's what kept the crowds away ... :-) | | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
