Forbidden City in China - 02-02-2008, 03:27 PM

Here are some shots from the Forbidden City in Beijing, which is directly across the road from Tiananmen Square. Some of the main buildings were under renovation prior to the Olympics starting with scaffolding surrounding them. We made a very quick tour so I'd love to go back some day and spend more time there. It was very cool to see this place.

One of the few places I’d love to see in person. These are great, Tim! Thanks for posting them.

Glad to hear about the renovations. I was there in '99 (dead of summer - you picked a much better time!) and it was DEFINITELY in need of some tender loving care.

Nice...I so want to go back to China. I miss it. I had been going there (or Taiwan) at least 3-4 times a year since '96. Changed jobs and no more. I'm having withdrawal symptoms.

Tim, I'm really enjoying your China posts with the great pictures. I'm taking notes on where your are going. I pretty sure I might get to go in October, after the Olympics. All the great improvements they are making for the Olympics should still be in excellant condition that soon after the games.

Thanks Jesus. The buildings that they have finished look great. Here is a shot of the main building encased in scaffolding. I would love to go back again. I had a great time and got to see some things that I had never dreamed that I would have seen in person.

Thanks Al. You will have a great time there. Our tour guide said that fall would be the best time of year to go for the best temperatures and blue sky. I'll send you a link to my gallery when I get all of my shots processed.

Thanks Mike and Steve. So Steve, when were you there? We did make it all the way to the opposite gate and saw the very old, some over 300 yr old, trees. Here is one shot from there.
