I shot an RC-airplane race one weekend years ago (film), and one struggle I had was making the planes look smaller in scale when they are in the sky. I was able to get some good shots, though, with the planes whizzing by the people controlling them. It was at a small municipal airport, and I got one with a guy towing his RC plane past a full-size plane that looked similar. A few years ago, I took photos of an RC group's "Float N'Fly" that used lightweight RC planes with floats, at in indoor pool. Scale was another challenge, but a guy in the club took his kayak to retrieve planes that would crash. It was a neat contrast of sizes.
What I'm trying to say is that it's a challenge, but if you really want a good shot of an RC helicopter, to make it look like a model you'll need something as a point of reference. Whether that's a person or recognizable object. As for this particular photo, the crops seem to help. But it could just be a really brazen stunt pilot flying a brightly colored heli upside down. |
