I like a lot of the photos, but the site makes me dizzy. It's a cool effect how the pictures move/rotate/angle, but was a little disorienting while looking at it.

Several really good photos. The presentations is quite annoying. If the photos had a 3D effect to them it might be kinda okay. They are 2D so it looses any real value to have it.

If you want your photos to be taken seriously, take them seriously enough to present them in an accessible, professional manner. I really can't comment on the photos themselves because, as you are pulling them from flickr which sometimes has bandwidth issues..., i got to see 2 of them load before was so incredibly annoyed with the tilt-viewer that I exited your site...

I am only that harsh because I have a feeling that most potential clients of yours that you direct to that website would also be annoyed and you would not get any business from it. How do I know this? Well, I'm a professional web application developer, previously project manager for a successful web development studio. The simple fact is cutesy flash apps like you have going on right now have their place and should be used with extreme caution. People are coming to your site to see YOUR work, not the work of some developer who made the tilt presentation app. Show them your work! Make it clean, easy to navigate, and make your work the main focus. After all that is why you sent them there...

Hope this helps you. If not, I apologize for the unsolicited advice.

Yeah I think we're on the same page. I'm a game developer with a previous career in website design. I'm an artist... This was the easiest way to toss up a site quickly - far easier than my other flash portfolio that I wrote myself, It takes a long time to write descriptions in xml format per image. This is by no means my reguar site, just something I tossed up.

Ok, good to know. I'll try to check out your photos to give you an answer to what you're really asking. Hopefully flickr will be speedy by then (ha, yeah right!)

You pursuaded me to start the arduous task of embedding my flash portfolio into the site. I'll host all my images in high resolution. It's just a pain in the butt setting pixel dimensions, re-commenting every image, and setting up some new tables, etc. But in the end it will be better.

I also liked some of your photos, and yes it was extremly annoying viewing them that way. I think could develop you photography skills into something wonderful.

It's like that song from the 60's "I'm so dizzy, my head is spinning" I saw what looked like some good photo's but with the moving screen action isn't a plus in my book.

Photoshop has some good templates where it will auto resize and put them into a Web Gallery. Maybe you can build your own to work with PS. You can even buy some PS templates that have paypall built in so you can sell your images.
Take all the cheats you can get.

I was really amused with this site for like the first 20 seconds. I really like that you can answer the question of "where is that at" by flipping the card over. The tilt however got old really quick. I would of liked to have seen them bigger too.
I really liked the foggy bridge in Mississippi and the light flare coming through the trees at night.

CJ,

The presentation I thought was unique and didn't bother me at all. It loaded very fast for me. I thought it was different.

Do you want me to look it from a personal viewpoint or a professional viewpoint?

From a professional viewpoint I think there are too many snapshot, personal, and vacation pictures. I subscribe to the less is more theory for portfolio images. I think you take the viewer to a better place if you have 16 out of 16 powerful images, rather than if you had 16 powerful images lost among 65 images. I would take out every image that is not up to a high professional standard.

From a personal standpoint they are nice but not many images stick out in my mind. I think the volume of images contributes to this problem.

Thanks for the feedback Mike. Yes, I was going through a lot of images I took this year, several were from vacations and I tossed them in there. I am currently re-doing the site and switching to a 2d perspective and ditching the 3d - too many people get seasick it seems. When I do that I will make sure to break off the everyday from the real artwork. It is a hodgepodge of various images, some of them are artsy, some of them are humorous.

It's a shame the foggy bridge one was taken too late at night, I had to use a high iso and it turned out too grainy unfortunately. I think I will continue to use the image as a thumbnail but not as a main piece any longer. Thank you very much for the input, I appreciate it!

(Disclaimer: I did not look at your website.. was frightened by the others' comments)

Yes.. remember a "portfolio" is not every shot you've ever made.. or made during a certain period of time. A portfolio is your best work.. always. Its better to have 10 great images than it is to have 20 mediocre ones.

To quote a good friend of mine...
Quote:
I am always amazed that models and actors bring me every picture that they have ever taken and call it their portfolio. This is not a portfolio; it is a problem. What is disheartening is that 90% of the pictures in these “portfolios” will have to go. People feel because they have put so much money, time, and effort in putting the pictures together, they need to be included. Sometimes, rearranging the photos to create a better flow can salvage a weak portfolio. However, only the best pictures should be showcased. If there is any question as to whether or not a photo should be included, it probably shouldn’t. Remove it. Like an adhesive bandage, it will only sting for a moment!
