Moon Merge - 01-13-2009, 12:08 AM

OK scrap it and start over or what do you think? This is two shots I took last night of the full moon. I could not get the moon properly exposed and definition in the foreground without manipulation in PS. So I took one shot exposed of the moon and a seperate of the foreground. The shots were in different areas so the moon did not actualy come up right where it is here. It was pasted in and then I applied a layer mask. While it was photoshopped, I did want to portray the night as I saw it and not go over the top

Worth it as an artistic photograph or is it garbage?

On the screen it is a little too extreme a go between light and dark, but that's me. I'm also a rule of thirds or Fibonacci Sequence kinda guy. Some ideas to think about. Oh, and personal experience only tells me the moon is more amber the closer it is to the horizon.

The concept is good but not realistic. The waning sunlight appears to be coming from the right. That means there is no way to have the moon located where you placed it in your shot. If you are going for artsy, then it is just okay. A more uniform sky would help some. The trees just don't look silhouetted correctly to be passable. Sorry to say, but I'm thinking do over.

A moon that bright would also have illuminated your scene a little more on the ground. At least I'd think so. The moon is nothing but a gigantic reflector for sunlight, after all!
