My new bike! woot woot! - 05-02-2009, 07:19 PM

Bought a 2009 Specialized Hardrock Disc and some accessories:
I picked my new bike yesterday and rode it home from the store 3 miles. WHEW! Three things I can tell you about my butt...it's fat, it's out of shape, and it's SORE! That seat is hard.

After a photo shoot today, I rode bikes with our 4 year old twins in the neighborhood. We had a blast. Sadee & Josh were so excited about riding bikes with their daddy. I really need to find a soft seat. OUCH. My tooshie is tender, even with all its padding. The heat, humidity, and long ride finally took its toll on all of us...so we headed home.

The kids went inside to rest. I unloaded my camera gear from my car and started shooting my bike. Below are some pics, but to see them all click HERE.

That place is awesome. Everybody in there was very helpful! Better yet...they were doubly respectful. Yes sir, no sir, and thank you sir! You just don't hear that very much these days.

If you think you have a fat arse, you'll want to find a seat with some width. I picked up a WTB Laser V Team saddle: http://www.speedgoat.com/product.asp...t=41&brand=291 You can find this at Performance as well if you want to pick it up locally. I will add this, talk to your sales rep and ask if you could test ride the saddle and if you dont like it, you can exchange it for another.

Make sure you find a saddle you like because if you have a sore arse, the less you'll want to ride.

When I got my Specialized bike, the first thing I did is replace the seat (and grips). The one I have now is much softer on the backside...but STILL hurts me. I need to get out and ride more often.

I was going to get the disc brake model, but since I really only ride it around the neighborhood and not all that often, the sales guy told me to put money into the frame/model of bike instead of the brakes at this point. I think I made a wise choice, but I do sure like disc brakes. Perhaps someday if I start riding more often.

BTW: Curious. How tall are you? I noticed you have a 17... Mine is a 21... I'm 6' 2"...

Grips are something I'm about to replace on a bike I purchased recently and I went with the ESI Grips, theyre made of silicone, they have 2 models a racer and chunky, the racer is a thinner grip compared to the chunky, but the chunky will give you better dampening.

For Casey - they do have a lime green grip :)

Nice looking bike. I have a Specialized HardRace Sport that I bought a few years ago, and I put a real comfy seat on it. Haven't ridden it as much as I had planned so it's still looking good hanging in my garage. I need to get it down and go riding at River Legacy Parks sometime.

Awesome!

Bike saddles are a personal thing, but finding the right one can be counter-intuitive. No matter how soft, hard, big or small your seat is, if you're not used to riding it's going to hurt. The cure is finding the right one for you, which will still hurt for awhile, but then be wonderful. And strangely, I've found that the smaller, firmer saddles suit me best (less pressure where it counts).

The English-made Brookes leather saddles are really hard at first, but then soften to conform to your rear. If you can handle the price (high) and the break-in period, they are regarded by some as the most comfortable out there. They are definitely durable, and there are models for casual riding, serious riding and racing.
