I dont understand why someone wouldn't just buy a new 5D mkII instead and save $2k

Fortunately, I don't have the cash to consider the 1DsIII right now. But I can see why some would go for it over the 5D Mark II (which I'll probably bite on eventually). The 1DsIII is still Canon's top-of-the-line flagship, and it is built like a tank. Would be my choice in extreme "failure is not an option" environments.

Expect an updated version of the 1Ds model with video capture and ultrahigh ISO capability soon!

Well, there's image processor part, and operative functionality part. Same reason people bought Canon 1V or Nikon F5 instead of other product line when they all used same film.

The autofocus on the 1DsMKIII is fantastic. That alone is worth the extra 2k.
