First Senior Session/ Need a Senior Spot Spring, TX - 06-04-2009, 11:49 AM

I have my first Senior shoot coming up and I need a great place to shoot my senior. I live in the area Spring, TX near The Woodlands! I wanted to know if any of you new of any great places out there you could suggest for my first senior shoot.
I have been taking maternity and newborn and family shoots like crazy and this would be my first opportunity for a senior shoot, very exciting!!

Edgy urban and Spring seems like an oxymoron.

Old town Spring? Watch out though ... there is a photography studio there somewhere that sometimes will run you off :)

Does she have the right to do that? What does she say to you? Its True Expressions I believe, that is the only one I know of located in Old Town Spring. Let me know thanks so much!

I am really looking for something other than Mercier Arboritum but thank you so much. I seem to take all my pictures there and I want something unique for my portfolio. Keep them coming everyone!! :)

Well this was back when my mom was just taking my senior photos.... so in 2002. We were on the SIDEWALK near those really cool lightpoles they have and she came out and said "I rent the right to photograph in this area so I am gonna have to ask you to leave". We did because we weren't sure if she was right or not. BUt there are cool light poles a few streets over anyway. Plus this was my MOM, not someone with a photo business so oh well I guess. I don't know if it was that studio or some other one. Just thought I'd give a warning :)

wow thanks for the warning. I honestly cant believe that especially this being your mom taking the pictures and not a professonal photographer. Thank you again for the warning, I was hoping to find a train track back in that area.

There is a train track in that area. I use old town spring frequently, I just make sure I keep a good distance from the studio (near the red caboose). There are some cool walls, and if you go early enough in the day there is a restaurant there that has some rustic walls, street signs etc. There is also a vacant lot as you going into old town spring on the right (before the road v's) that makes a good location.

Otherwise, I have used Mercer Arboretum (more so for girls), as well as The Woodlands waterway area. Downtown Conroe has some grungy looking buildings as well.

Hope that helps.

That sure doesn't say much for that photographer's confidence in their own work to be so threatened by a "civilian" with a P&S.

It sounds to me like she was blowing smoke, as I'm sure all she is renting is her studio space and perhaps a small associated yard.

Well in the photographers defense my mom had more than a P&S... which is probably why she said something. But even after we explained she was my mom she still asked us to leave. We're not trouble makers so we just went a street over ;)

I think it would be great if a whole crew of photographers showed up there and started taking photos.

Tom, I like your idea!!

Actually I was there last fall with a group of people and took some pictures but I guess I was far enough away and no one bothered me.

So....if anyone wants to "play" in OTS, let me know!!

I too find that silly. I would shoot all around there - she is renting the studio NOT the street. Im positive of that. That's like saying - "Im renting the right to photograph" by a church - and then throwing a hissy fit anytime someone has a wedding at the church next door and hires someone else.
Old Town Spring is fun to go to also - lots of bright colors, little cottages and (for the most part) very kind and interesting people. I personally have an issue (kinda OCD) that when I drive through spring - I HAVE to go to Old Town to check it out! Haha! Christmas has some neat decor too....

I'd like to go check out the area if anyone else wants to meet up as well, I want to find a cool old historic area.

I agree a photographer can't claim the surrounding area to their studio. Only if it's directly connected, or part of thier property.
